Mecklenburg County is conducting planning studies for greenway trails along portions of the greenway system as reflected on Mecklenburg County Greenway Master Plan to help inform future development, land needs and funding priorities. Greenway trails are the number one requested amenity by the residents of Mecklenburg County. In an effort to meet the needs of the public and continue adding to Mecklenburg County's growing greenway system, a planning study aims to better understand future greenway corridors.

Polk Historic Site and continues to the South Carolina state line. The trail is 12 feet wide, approximately 3 miles in length and will offer trail users the experience of traversing through steep woodlands. The second segment of trail will start at Cross Charlotte Trail moving northeast along Briar Creek, crossing under Park Road and ending at Manning Drive.
The Back Creek Greenway Planning Study will evaluate approximately 7½ miles of the Back Creek Greenway corridor from Reedy Creek Park (Grier Road) to future Back Creek Park (Back Creek Church Road). The Back Creek Greenway corridor will ultimately connect several neighborhoods and residents to Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve, future Reedy Creek Greenway (currently in design), as well as three future park properties (including Back Creek Park). This project is not funded but rather intends to inform funding priorities for future Capital Improvement Plans. At the end of the study, the County will hold a public meeting to present the results and gather input.

The first ~1.5 mile phase of Long Creek Greenway is nearly complete from I-77 to Treyburn Drive, which includes a connection along Dixon Branch Greenway under W.T.
